Fiction to Fashion: A walkthrough of personal styling at DCC

Hello lovelies,

Last week, the door to the Dicreative Collective Office swung open for me, and it was a pleasure to get an insight into the step-by-step process of the premium personal styling services at DCC. And for the next month, I’m taking you along for the ride as I embark on a personal style makeover adventure myself. Hang tight, because, by the end of this ride, you’ll have a good sense of what to anticipate when you book your own personal styling session.

The first stop on our agenda is a coffee chat with Dian. Dian is the CEO and Creative Director of DCC, who is not only a fashion designer but also a fashion stylist trained at Die Angewandte Kunst Universität in Vienna.

At the heart of Dicreative Collective’s personal styling services is the goal to press pause on our crazy fashion impulses. You know, how we’re always chasing the latest trends, new bags, shoes, and whatnot. They believe your closet’s hiding some serious untapped potential and clothing pieces that can be merged together and with new pieces. Dian and I kicked things off with an interview, which was supposed to be a 15-minute interview, but we got so carried away, we ended up chatting for about an hour. The questions were intriguing and personal, and I’d like to share some of them with you.

But before we dive in, let’s do a quick rundown of the steps of personal styling services:

1. Chat with your stylist to discuss your styling needs and arrange meetings.

2. Meet your stylist in person and fill out a questionnaire.

3. We handle your closet styling and digital wardrobe inventory. We select and photograph your best pieces, then offer styling suggestions based on your wardrobe.

4. Receive 3 personalized styling mood boards to approve.

5. Get curated style makeover boards with shopping recommendations.

6. If needed, request one revision per styling board.

7. Enjoy a personal shopping session with your stylist.

8. Receive advice on colors, patterns, styling techniques, and accessorizing.

9. Reorganize and declutter your closet during an in-person session.

Dian: “We aim to curate wardrobes and looks that bring out the best in you, aligning with your personality, physique, and body shape. Our goal is to make you not only look good but feel your best. So, I’m here to understand your lifestyle, personality, preferences, and style taboos.”

Dian continued, “In a broad sense, what is your primary concern when it comes to your personal style?”

Me: I want to refresh my style a bit.  I love fashion, of course, and my style is versatile, but I feel like I lack a unique personal style. I want a signature style that screams ‘Sama’ without saying a word. Instead, I find myself investing in clothes and accessories that are more ‘meh’ than ‘wow.’

D. “Interesting that you said that! I’ve read some of your short fiction, and they all exude an air of surrealism and magic realism. Would you say you want your wardrobe to reflect an extension of your creative essence?”

S. With a grin, I responded, “Absolutely, I love to channel my inner fictional character, HAHA. but I don’t want to look like a cosplay enthusiast.”

So, mark your calendars because next week, we’re off to the third stop on our personal styling adventure: Dian will be visiting me and my closets in my apartment, and she will select and photograph my best pieces, then offer styling suggestions based on my current wardrobe.

I’m quite excited about what she would find in there and about what comes next.
